Vietnamese textile and apparel exports in Aug continue to hit record high

Vietnam's textile and apparel exports showed a growth trend year-on-year and month-on-month for six consecutive months this year. The exports value in Aug was not only higher than any month in 2022, but also the highest level in the same period in the past four years.

In Aug 2022, Vietnamese cotton imports increased by 27.6% month-on-month. Vietnam's yarn imports moved up by 26.6% year-on-year but declined by 1.9% month-on-month, and its exports dropped by 20.3% year-on-year but rose by 13.1% month-on-month. Vietnam's fabrics imports moved up by 19.7% year-on-year and 5% month-on-month respectively. Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports increased by 50.8% year-on-year and 8.7% month-on-month respectively.

 

1. Vietnamese cotton import moved up both month-on-month and year-on-year in Aug  


Vietnam's cotton imports in Aug reached 133,800 tons, up 0.2% over the same period last year and 27.6% from the previous month. Australia was the main source of Vietnam's cotton imports in Aug, with 56,594 tons of imports, accounting for 42% of the total imports. Imports from U.S. and China Taiwan reached 52,285 tons and 10,768 tons, accounting for 39% and 8% respectively.

 

2. Vietnamese yarn import moved up year-on-year while declined month-on-month in Aug

In Aug, Vietnam imported 89,500 tons of yarns, up 26.6% year-on-year but down 1.9% month-on-month. In terms of countries, the main origins of yarn imports in Aug were China, China Taiwan and Thailand. Of the total, 55,048 tons of yarns were from China, 10,768 tons were from China Taiwan, and 6,216 tons were from South Korea, accounting for 61%, 12% and 7% respectively.

 

3. Vietnamese yarn export moved down year-on-year but increased month-on-month in Aug

Vietnam's yarn exports in Aug reached 124,600 tons, down 20.3% over the same period last year but increased by 13.1% from the previous month. By country, the exports to China, South Korea and the US were 57,539 tons, 10,307tons, and 5,579 tons, accounting for 46%, 8% and 4% respectively.

 

4. Vietnamese yarn net exports decreased year-on-year yet went up month-on-month in Aug


Vietnam's yarn net exports reached 35,000 tons in Aug, down by 59.1% from the 85,500 tons the same period last year but up by 86% from the same period last month.

 

5. Vietnamese fabrics imports climbed up both year-on-year and month-on-month in Aug

Vietnam's fabrics imports in Aug were 1.204billion USD, up 19.7% over the same period last year and 5% month-on-month. In terms of countries, its fabrics imports in Aug were mostly originated from China, China Taiwan, and South Korea, of which 740 million USD worth of fabrics were from China, 190 million USD worth of fabrics from China Taiwan and 120 million USD worth of fabrics from South Korea, accounting for 61%, 15% and 10% respectively.

 

6. Vietnamese textiles and apparel exports value rose both year-on-year and month-on-month in Aug

Vietnamese textiles and apparel exports in Aug reached 4.00billion USD, up 50.8% year-on-year and 8.7% month-on-month respectively. In terms of countries, Vietnam exported 1,700million USD worth of textiles and apparel to US, 480million USD to Japan, and 460million USD to South Korea, accounting for 44%, 12% and 12% respectively. Based on exports value, Vietnamese textiles and apparel exports in Aug were higher than that in Jul, marking a record high since the beginning of the year.
